For a newcomer, Los Angeles can be a little bit overwhelming, especially when it comes to planning a night out on the town. The Farmer’s Daughter philosophy is to spend more time having fun rather than trying to figure out where to go, that’s why we’ve put together a list of our top picks of things to do in LA at night. We’ve got everything from comedy clubs to late-night cafes and free things to do around the city – check it out!
LA Comedy Clubs
LA has a booming comedy scene with some of the best comedy clubs in the nation. Some of our favorites include the Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, and the Ice House. Give one of these a shot and you’re sure to leave in stitches.
The Comedy Store is one of the most famous comedy clubs in Los Angeles. They offer a show every night at 7 pm in each of their three performance rooms (Belly, Original and Main). Try to contain your laughter as you sip your cocktails as they have a two-drink minimum. The Comedy Store is conveniently located 2.3 miles from the Farmer’s Daughter, check out their schedule to see if your favorite comedian is performing while you’re in town.
One of the oldest spots in LA, the Hollywood Improv is a foundation for the LA comedy scene. In its 44 years, its stage has seen some of the biggest names in comedy including Chevy Chase, Drew Carey, Jeff Dunham, David Letterman, and Carol Leifer (just to name a few). Be sure to grab tickets in advance as they sell out quicker than hot cakes! Open from 5 pm to 2 am every night and just 1 mile from the Farmer’s Daughter.
The Ice House
Another club that will have you doubling over in laughter is the Ice House. Some of the most iconic comedians like Jim Carrey, Jerry Seinfield, Steve Martin, and Jay Leno have taken the stage at this intimate 200-seating venue. Shows run from 6 pm to 2 am, Tuesday through Sunday. See who’s performing at the Ice House while you’re in LA and book in advance.
Cafes in Los Angeles
LA has some of the best places in the country for a late-night bite. With locations open until the wee hours of the morning, you can party all night and then sink your teeth into something delicious before you hit the sheets!
Our very own Tart restaurant is a great spot to get the night started. We offer happy hour from 4-6 pm, Monday through Friday, with dinner service beginning at 5 pm. Grab noshes like shrimp tacos, beer-braised short ribs, and the signature Tart burger while you sip champagne or a cold beer!
Canter’s Deli is ideal for a quick late-night bite. It’s just a quick ride from Farmer’s Daughter and it’s open all day, every day! Their menu includes authentic deli-style sandwiches, cold salads, and fresh pastries. Feel like snacking from the comfort of your room? Take out and delivery options are available at Canter’s.
The Original Pantry is located in downtown LA about 9.5 miles from the Farmer’s Daughter Hotel. If you’re in the downtown area we definitely recommend stopping in for either their renowned short stack pancakes or sourdough french toast. No matter the time of day, The Original Pantry Cafe is always open for business.
Bringing New York-style comfort food to Santa Monica, and just 9 miles from the Farmer’s Daughter Hotel, Izzy’s is a must when in town. Izzy’s has been around since 1973 and is notorious for its long line of people waiting to try their delicious corn beef and pastrami sandwiches. Stop in for a late-night bite or sweet treat!
What Is There To Do in LA at Night For Free?
If you’re looking for fun without breaking the bank, LA has a ton of things to do for free! Have an adventure on the Strip, see the Pacific, or gaze up at the Hollywood sign.
Take a leisurely walk down the iconic Sunset Strip, one of the busiest areas in LA. The young and hip flock here for its unique and elegant shops and eateries. Save the Uber ride as Farmer’s Daughter is just (2.5 miles) from the Strip.
Hike the Hollywood Sign
Some of the best views in the city can be seen from the Hollywood Sign! Hike the Hollywood Sign and gaze out upon the picturesque sunset and city lights. There are a few trails to choose from, but we recommend the Canyon Drive Trailhead. The Canyon Drive Trail takes about two and a half hours (4 miles) round trip and is open from sunrise to sunset. The optimal time to start your sunset hike is 4 pm, giving you ample time to reach the peak and back before closing. Be sure to bring extra water and a phone/camera to capture one of the most beautiful views you’ll ever see.
Santa Monica Pier
10 miles from Farmer’s Daughter you can find the Santa Monica Pier stretching into the serene Pacific. You’ll also find Pacific Park, an oceanfront amusement park with roller coasters, carnival games, shopping and more. Take a ride on the 85 foot-tall Pacific Wheel and enjoy a panoramic view of Southern California or venture down the pier to grab a quick snack or to do some shopping.
